Girnar Ji Yatra is a famous pilgrimage in Gujarat. It is on Girnar mountain near Junagadh city. People come here for both Hindu and Jain faith. The mountain has many old temples. Devotees climb thousands of steps to reach them. This yatra tests body and mind but gives peace.
About Girnar Mountain
Girnar is also called Girinagar or Revatak Parvata. It is an old hill, once a volcano. Now it is a holy place with over 800 temples of Hindus and Jains. The main climb starts from Girnar Taleti at the base. From Junagadh city center, it is about 4 km to Taleti.
The path has around 10,000 steps to the top. Many say it is 9,999 steps to the last point. People start early in the morning, around 4 or 5 am, to avoid heat. The climb takes 4 to 6 hours or more, depending on speed. There are small shops on the way for water, tea, and snacks. Rest places are also there.
The Main Temples on the Way
First part of the climb is to Amba Mata temple, also called Ambaji temple. It is on the first peak. This part has about 3,500 to 5,000 steps. Many people take the ropeway now. The ropeway starts from base and goes up to near Amba Mata temple. It saves a lot of steps. Ticket is around ₹400 one way or ₹700 return. This helps old people, families, or those who cannot climb much.
After Amba Mata, the path goes to important Jain temples. From there, you go down some steps to reach Neminath temple. Neminath was the 22nd Tirthankara of Jains. His temple is big and old, from many centuries ago. It is one of the main Jain spots. Nearby are other Jain temples with nice marble work. This area is at about 3,500 to 4,000 steps from base.
From Jain temples, the climb goes higher to Dattatreya temple. This is for Hindus. Guru Dattatreya is the main god here. People believe he stayed on this peak. The temple is at the highest point. To reach it, you climb more steps after Amba Mata. The full path to top is hard but views are beautiful. You see hills, jungle, and sometimes animals.
Many Hindus come for blessings at Dattatreya Paduka. Jains visit for Neminath and other spots like places where he got diksha or kevalgyan. There are also temples for other gods like Shiva in caves.
Best Time and How to Reach
Best time to visit is winter, from November to February. Weather is cool then. Avoid summer because heat makes climb tough. Monsoon time has rain and slippery steps, so not good.
How to reach Junagadh: By train or bus from big cities like Ahmedabad or Rajkot. Rajkot airport is closest, about 100 km away. From Junagadh, take auto or taxi to Taleti base.
Many people do full climb for spiritual reason. It feels like leaving worries behind with each step. Some go at night for sunrise view at top. But day climb is safer for first time.
There is also Girnar Parikrama sometimes, but normal darshan is open most days. Ropeway makes it easy for more people.
Conclusion
Girnar Ji Yatra is not just about temples. It is about hard work, faith, and feeling close to god. After climb, when you reach top and see the view, the tired body feels light with peace. Many come back again because the place stays in heart. If you want a real spiritual trip with nature and devotion, Girnar is the right place.
